Dear NMFT Members,
We want to provide you with an update on our 2025–2026 contract reopener negotiations. Your NMFT negotiating team met yesterday, Thursday 10/16/25 for negotiations with the District.
We have tentative mutual agreements regarding:
- Additional release time for SAI teachers
- Prep time for elementary SCC teachers
We are currently working towards agreement on:
- Clarifying the practices for staff and PLT meeting times that respect your time
- Securing a salary increase that truly reflects your value as dedicated educators
The district’s current proposal for our salary increase is two percent (2%). NMFT strongly believes there is money in the District’s budget for a larger raise for all of you. The District informed us during negotiations they plan to pass on the full cost of health benefit increase to all the benefited unit members until there is a bargaining agreement reached. The district gave us an estimate of $310 a month (Friday they said it could be less). We believe this is undue pressure to come to a hasty agreement while we continue to work toward a pay raise for NMUSD educators that confirms your immense value and reflects the District’s positive, unique financial situation.
NMFT negotiation team will continue to persevere in advocating for salaries and other key items that demonstrate your incredible worth. Your Union deeply appreciates your support and participation. Your presence is needed at the next School Board meeting at 6 PM Tuesday, 10/21/25. The united strength of our large membership, showing up will send a clear and powerful message that we are all standing together during negotiations. Please wear your NMFT t-shirt or any blue.
